colorado springs photography retreat

Every year in about September I start feeling burnt out and overwhelmed with weddings that are slowing down and family sessions that have ramped up. I dream of taking a few days and running away to be creative and renew myself and my art. A Colorado 2022 Photography Retreat that has an easy pace and a quieter space.

This September, I got sick and HAD to take that time. What I realized is that I returned to my clients with a fresh since of purpose and eye for what I wanted to achieve and capture with my camera. The same thing happened for me in 2020 when Colorado shut down for everyone to quarantine. My art grew, my technical knowledge and my passion for creating beautiful pieces that I could be proud of was renewed. Each time, circumstances outside of my control gave me time to grow. Furthermore, they were unexpected blessings that were forced on me.

But what if I took time like this when I wasn’t FORCED to? What if I was conscientious of this need and really put aside the time for my art work to expand?

And what if I invited others to join me on this journey?

So that tiny dream of have creative retreat blossomed. And now, in February of 2022 in Colorado Springs MAJECK Photography will host the Rest, Renew, Create Retreat. This is a 2022 Colorado Photography Retreat geared towards renewing our creative energies and expanding our knowledge and portfolios.

So what exactly is this photography retreat?

It is Intimate.
There will be no more than 7 participants, including myself and a team member. That intimacy will help us to create connection and limits the frustration of a large shoot out with one model and many photographers working to get good pictures.

It is a chance to Relax.
Starting with a Wine and Cocktail Party on Friday evening, we will welcome you to our beautiful Air B&B in Colorado Springs and get to know each other. Maybe you want to have a glass of wine in the hot tub that evening – totally an option. Put the concerns of the world aside and be excited about each other and our art.

Finally, it is a chance to Renew Creatively. If you are feeling burnt out or looking for direction, a Colorado Photography Retreat like this could be the perfect answer. I attended something similar on a whim in 2019 and know it helped me gain perspective.

What to Expect?

Friday night we will have a 7pm check in with wine and appetizers. This is a chance for us to meet, mingle and dream.

Saturday morning will be a slower paced meal with coffee, tea and delicious food with a Q&A, portfolio review (done as a group – so that we can learn from each other). A styled table scape will be available to work on our flat lay skills or maybe you’d rather go for a bit of a walk in the open space behind the house with views of the mountains. Either way – you set the pace.

After lunch, we will chat about our upcoming business goals and what steps we need to achieve them. We will also have a Cost of Doing Business discussion with what goes into creating a 6 figure, profitable business. I’ll share my knowledge – and my background as a finance manager for businesses.

Our “Bride and Groom” will then arrive and we will capture some getting ready portraits before heading out to our mountain styled shoot. Mountain backdrops, deep jewel tones and fresh florals will make this event special along with a sparkling water send off. We will be following Leave No Trace principles to ensure proper respect of our parks and open spaces.

Anniversary photos

Heading back to the house for editing and a delicious dinner, it’s time to relax and ooh and ahhh over each other’s snaps! Or maybe go read a book and just rest. This is your time and you should embrace it.

The following morning we will be up early and utilizing the open space behind us for a sunrise solo portrait session and then breakfast.

Finally, a send off headshot swap and lunch (not included in price) will be available for those who want to join me in downtown Colorado Springs at some favorite mural walls!

What this isn’t is a non stop conference with speakers and information going at you full force. Because Fall is non stop. February is a chance to slow down and create images that make your heart sing and, will help you get to where you want to be in your craft.
I know. It sounds amazing. It’s the kind of retreat I want to attend. Time to relax. A time to create. The time for me. That’s why I’m doing this. I know I’m not the only one.
So… How much does it cost to Rest, Relax and Create?

There are four double occupancy spots and one single occupancy spot. Everybody will have their own bed across three rooms, access to the content portions, food, wine and a goodie bag to help set you in the right mood.

Hi and thanks for dropping by! I’m Mary Elizabeth, the Colorado Springs based photographer behind MAJECK (pronounced magic). I am so glad that you found me here and I can’t wait to work to tell your story. My whole life I have felt compelled to tell stories.
